Is sunscreen actually safe long-term?

The fear

A 2019 FDA study showed chemical UV filters absorb into the bloodstream after one day of use. People panicked, headlines spun. The actual paper was more measured.

What it meant

Detection is not harm. The FDA didn’t say ‘stop wearing sunscreen’ — they said ‘we want more data.’ Skin cancer is a leading preventable cancer, sunscreen demonstrably reduces it.

The pragmatic answer

If you’re worried, mineral sunscreens (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) are inert and well-studied. Either kind is far safer than going without.
